Selecting the right metal edging profile

Profile selection should start with the exposure environment, required visible height, expected ground movement, curve radius and substrate. A taller vertical face provides more material separation, while a wider base offers more surface area for anchoring. Thicker material generally provides greater profile stiffness but needs more force and suitable equipment when forming curves.

Stainless grade is only one part of performance. Drainage, soil chemistry, dissimilar-metal contact, surface contamination during installation and maintenance practices can all affect the installed result. Installation planning

  1. Confirm the site detail. Mark the finished line and check levels, drainage, irrigation, cables, utilities and visible roots before any excavation or fixing.
  2. Prepare the substrate. Remove loose material and create a stable, level fixing zone appropriate for the specified pins or screws.
  3. Form gradual curves safely. Use suitable forming tools and protective gloves. The achievable radius depends on the selected grade, gauge, height and base width; do not force a tight curve without an approved method.
  4. Set the finished height. Keep the top line consistent and avoid unnecessary projection where wheels, maintenance tools or foot traffic may strike the edge.
  5. Anchor the tabs. Fix through the pre-punched holes using hardware appropriate to the soil or substrate. Add fixing points near joints and direction changes according to the project detail.
  6. Finish and inspect. Align section ends, protect exposed cut edges as specified, restore the adjacent surface and inspect the line after settlement or heavy weather.

Safety note: sheet-metal edges and cut ends can be sharp. Installation should be carried out with gloves, eye protection and tools suited to stainless steel. Site engineers or qualified installers should determine the anchoring method for public, paved, sloped or high-traffic areas.
